It’s been a huge week for HOTA, Home of the Arts. Our new name and new look was unveiled to the world and we announced a free concert with Australian legend Tim Minchin.

Tickets went at crazy speed, but there’s so much more to come at HOTA over the next few months, both free and ticketed. On sale from 9am on 9 February (online only) at hota.com.au.

Queensland Symphony Orchestra perform the exceptional music of five times Academy and 23 times Grammy Award Winner, John Williams. From the iconic soundtracks of major movies including Star Wars, Superman, Schindler’s List, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter and others. Under the stars with spectacular lighting, this is an open air, live concert experience not to be missed.

CONCERT FOR THE PLANET

24 MARCH – FREE

Holst’s The Planets performed live by the Gold Coast Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of conductor Lachlan Snow. In celebration of Earth Hour, we’ll transform the parklands into a classical music soundscape. Live-streamed globally, musicians and communities will be able to play together. Join this unique event at HOTA with a picnic under the stars.

CLASSIC FLOW LIVE: YOGA BY THE LAKE

12 & 13 May – FREE (but you must register)

A blissed-out combination of vinyasa and a unique live performance of the ABC podcast Classic Flow, amid the tropical parklands at HOTA’s riverside. Bring water and your yoga mat. First 100 people to arrive will receive a Classic Flow tote bag or keep cup. Perfect for yogis of all levels.

THE SPIRIT OF CHURAKI

26 MAY – FREE

From our friends art Bleached Arts we can’t wait to bring this epic local indigenous production to the outdoor stage at HOTA. Debuting at Festival 2018 The Spirit of Churaki is the story of the Gold Coast’s first life saver. Under the musical direction of Brian Ritchie (Violent Femmes) this is a musical collaboration united by the spirit of the surf.

LAURIE ANDERSON IN RESIDENCE

20-24 JUNE – Some free / some ticketed

Multi-award winner and fearless pioneer, musician and film director, Laurie Anderson will be HOTAs first artist in residence. And it’s kind of a big deal. Collaborating, mentoring and sharing ideas between 20-24 Jun. We can’t wait.

REAL EVENTS, REAL PEOPLE, REAL EXPERIENCES

When we’re not presenting amazing live shows, we will be bringing the parklands around the precinct alive every week with parkrun, our regular Sunday Farmers Markets and a series of new monthly events including:

DANCING ON THE GREEN

FIRST ONE 21 APR (then monthly) – FREE

Every month, get your groove at sunset on the lawn at HOTA. Good vibes, fine tunes, perfect weather and the chance to dance. From swing to salsa, Bollywood to booty beats to ballroom – each month will bring a new flavour with a complementing live band or DJ. No skills necessary.

CORROBOREE

THE FIRST DAY OF EVERY MONTH – FREE

All are welcome to attend the Yawar (Corroboree) a traditional method and a customary practice reflecting gathering. The Riverside Lawn at HOTA will be brought alive with thought provoked expression through sound, movement and conversation by the Jagun Land People and local First Nations. Join us, learn and engage with local family groups to strengthen relationships and story.
