Logies 2018: Gold Coast welcomes Australia’s biggest TV stars

Maxine Steinmetz | July 2018

History has been made. The Gold Coast has hosted, for the first time in Queensland, the annual TV Week Logie Awards! On Sunday 1 July, Australia’s biggest television stars walked the red carpet at The Star Gold Coast and joining them were a handful of international celebrities.

The events move from Melbourne after more than 30 years to the Glitter Strip was a welcome change for many stars. The warmer weather, coastline, quality restaurants and world class attractions were hot topics on the red carpet…

“I managed to jump into the surf a couple of hours before putting the tux on.” said Doctor Doctor’s Rodger Corser.

“There’s a beach here?!” Hamish Blake joked, “on top of everything else, this is incredible. What a town!”

Despite the black-tie event being held in the middle of winter, the Gold Coast’s balmy temps were a welcome relief for many celebs, including Charlene from Married at First Sight, “We’re not freezing; we don’t have to carry jackets!”

Meanwhile Gold Logie winner Grant Denyer joked he stopped off at Sea World before the awards ceremony, “It’s been a good start to the night, I’ve sort of kept it local, kept it Queensland on arrival too…I didn’t come via a limo, I came on a dolphin which was nice.”

And MasterChef Australia judges George Calombaris and Gary Mehigan agreed that the restaurants up here are top notch, “I stopped in, went to The Fish House for lunch. It was fantastic,” said George. “And I saw Hellenika, packed! So you know, we’re always travelling for food, so it’s nice to be up here.” said Gary.

Twenty Logie statues were handed out on the night, including Most Popular Actor, Actress and the prestigious Gold Logie Award. Here’s the full list of nominees and winners from the 60th TV Week Logie Awards.
