Hollywood Blockbuster, Thor: Ragnarok premieres on the Gold Coast

Film Gold Coast | October 2017

Thor: Ragnarok set to break box office records, as all eyes look to the Gold Coast – Australia’s newest film hotspot.

Australian actor Chris Hemsworth headlined the highly anticipated premiere of Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok at Event Cinemas Robina on Friday 13 October.

Filmed on the Gold Coast from July to October 2016, Thor is tipped to top Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales as one of the biggest films ever to be produced in Australia.

It is the third instalment of the Marvels Studios’ franchise. The first two films in the Thor series earned a combined $1 billion at the global box office.

Principal photography took place at Village Road Studios with the newly completed $14.5 million Sound Stage 9 playing home to the Asgardian superhero adventure.

As a big screen destination of choice, the Gold Coast boasts a large film industry with a world-renowned crew base of nationally and internationally recognised technicians.

This has been a major draw card for international film producers not to mention the Gold Coast’s stunning array of diverse and accessible locations – allowing for almost any landscape to be replicated.

Strong collaboration and support from Federal Government, State Government and Local Council assisted in attracting Thor, which injected an estimated $300 million into the local economy.

Appearing in the film alongside Hemsworth will be a star studded line-up including Australian acting royalty, Cate Blanchett.
