DESCRIPTION:There is no better way to spend February than at the 2018 Sand Safari Arts Festival at one of Australia's most iconic beaches\, Surfers Paradise.\n\nOver 17 days\, the sands and streets of Surfers Paradise will come alive in a celebration of sand\, sea and sport inspired art.\n\nThe popular free event features the Australian Sand Sculpting Championships\, drawing thousands of spectators to admire some of Australia's and the world's most talented sculptors\, as they intricately carve life-sized masterpieces over the course of the weekend. Watch as mermaids and mythical creatures line the foreshore with each sculpture encapsulating a different sporting theme.\n\nSea creatures will return again in the form of gigantic inflatable art scattered throughout the precinct\, as well as other spectacular art forms that are brand new to the Sand Safari Arts Festival. Our interactive sculpture is bigger and better this year\, promising to gratify multiple senses.\n\nDon't miss your chance to meet our Surfers Paradise resident mermaid Sandy who will be hosting live book readings of the brand new Sand Safari book. Book readings will take place at Neptune's Throne\, a beautiful sculpture being created by artist Natasha Kamienskaia for its unveiling on Sunday 11 February.\n\nCan't get enough of Sand Safari? Have a safari of your own with Sand Trail\, which sees the art of sand sculpting extend beyond Surfers Paradise throughout local libraries\, hotels\, shopping centres and sports centres from 2-25 February.

DESCRIPTION:The unveiling of the Gateways public art installation HI-LIGHTS will kick off soon!\n\nThe Pop Up Parks at Ormeau and Kirra will get you an up close and personal experience with this iconic artwork coming to the Gold Coast. There will be design and craft activities\, a hang out space with DJ\, a Hi-Lights exhibit space and a Sausage sizzle! No registration is required and everyone is welcome to come along.\n\nWhat is the gateways public art commission?\n\nEstimated to be seen by over 155\,000 commuters every day\, Gateways will be made up of two major public artworks that will "bookend" the Gold Coast\, creating a sense of arrival and welcome for locals\, visitors and athletes. The Gateways Public Art Commission will become a beacon of the vibrant cultural life on the Gold Coast. The work titled HI-LIGHTS\, will feature 101 modified highway lights and poles\, closely spaced at different heights. The lights will appear to spell out the city's name in the northern installation and feature the letters GC at the Southern site.

It offers the opportunity to purchase wares made by local potters and meet the demand for handmade goods either as gifts or personal use. The exciting display of works is a must-see for visitors to the Gold Coast.\n\nAdding to the atmosphere\, the market is held in the historic Old Post Office Gallery at the Gold Coast Potters Association Benowa workshop\, corner Ashmore Road and Carrara Street.\n\nFormed in 1977\, the group has been operating continuously\, with the generous support of the Gold Coast City Council who initially provided an obsolete school building for a workshop and former post office for a gallery.
